Dragonara

Cantine De Gregorio - Dragonara

Description

Dragonara Tannat is one of the most unique wines in our production.

It has had a huge success in Germany, Belgium and other Countries already due to its specific qualities. Tannat is a grape that originated in the Basque region and was later exported in South America during the colonisation. Today is a very common grape in Uruguay and is often found in France as well, but it's oftentimes blended with other smoother grape varieties.

There are very few Italian wineries that cultivate Tannat, and we are the only ones in Sicily to bottle Tannat in purity, on its own.

The name “Dragonara” is associated with a local legend. According to this legend, there was a sea goddess named Dragonara who fell in love with a sailor. They were together for some time but then the sailor betrayed her. Furious with jealousy Dragonara cast a storm into the sea. Today here in this area we still say “there is a Dragonara” when there are whirlwinds forming into the sea.

Our label displays a woman wrapped into a tornado.

We recommend this wine with: red and savoury meat, stews, barbecue, white meat and seasoned cheeses.
